Germany will transfer 180,000 artillery shells to Ukraine as part of the Czech initiative

In the conflict zone, which covers more than 1,000 kilometers, intense artillery activity has become commonplace. With the help of artillery, the parties to the conflict are trying to maintain their static positions and seize new territories.

In particular, artillery shelling is widely used to destroy important enemy facilities, intimidate and disorganize the enemy, as well as to support its own military operations.

Germany will support Ukraine with 180,000 artillery shells at the initiative of the Czech Republic. This is reported by Reuters.

The German authorities explain the contribution to the Czech plan to purchase ammunition for Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that it will provide 576 million euros ($618 million).

The Armed Forces may not be able to hold the current front line: Estonian intelligence has named the reasons

Two years after the full-scale Russian invasion, Ukraine's most pressing need is artillery ammunition, which is running out. As noted, the belligerents are intensively using artillery to hold mostly static, already established positions along the 1,000-kilometer front line.

Boris Pistorius, Germany's defense minister, announced last month a matching aid package of 478 million euros to Ukraine, excluding support for the Czech missile initiative. The total cost of both support measures is more than one billion euros.

More countries have joined the Czech initiative to supply hundreds of thousands of cartridges for Ukraine from outside Europe.

The initiative of the Czech Republic to supply shells to Ukraine

The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, said on February 17 that the representatives of his country managed to find 800,000 ammunition for Ukraine. According to the politician, he found out from where it is possible to supply shells for artillery systems that will help our troops on the battlefield in the fight against Russian invaders. It will be possible to deliver them to the battlefield in a short time if partners in the USA, Germany, Sweden and other countries find suitable funding.

Other states joined the initiative. On February 28, Belgium announced that it would provide €200 million to the Czech project on projectiles to Ukraine.

Lithuania has joined the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine and will provide 35 million euros. The Prime Minister of the country, Ingrid Shimonite, emphasized that joint efforts will allow us to defeat Russia.

Portugal will provide €100 million for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense announced that funds will be provided for shells for large-caliber artillery.
