On Europe Day, May 9, the heads of foreign policy agencies of the European Union will gather in Kiev. This was announced by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro on the air of the French TV channel LCI.
“The foreign ministers of European countries intend to meet in Kyiv on May 9. I will definitely be there, ”Barro said.
The French Minister stressed that on May 9, it is sacred for Vladimir Putin's regime. It is on this day that the Victory Parade is traditionally held in Moscow, which the Kremlin uses to demonstrate military force. However, this year, European diplomats have decided to respond to a demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine - just in the center of Kiev.
“On this day, Putin plans a great celebration in Moscow is a Victory Day for them. It will be a moment of solidarity with Ukraine, ”Barro emphasized.
Meanwhile, some of the policies of candidate countries have decided to join the celebrations in Moscow. In particular, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo confirmed that he would come to the capital of the Russian Federation on May 9. He stressed that this visit, they say, does not mean supporting Russia's aggression.
Similar statements were made by Serbia President Alexandrandar Vuchich, who also announced his participation in a parade in Moscow, despite the direct warnings of the European Union. The high representative of the EU Kai Callas has already reminded that any participation in such activities will be perceived "not light" and will have the appropriate political consequences.
The meeting in Kiev on May 9 is not just a symbolic gesture, but a political signal to Moscow that Europe clearly identified on whose side its foreign policy support. In the face of war, it is also an expression of support for Ukraine's sovereignty on the eve of the potential escalation of hostilities in the summer season.
