A new scandal has erupted in Volyn over officials' declarations. An official of the Pension Fund of Ukraine, Liliya Bas, declared a gift from her son, a customs inspector, Volodymyr Bas. The documents indicate a 2018 MERCEDES-BENZ GLA 250, worth about 750,000 hryvnias.
Volodymyr Bas received this car after the start of the full-scale war. It is noteworthy that this is not the only expensive vehicle in the declaration: in August 2024, he also indicated a 2017 VOLKSWAGEN E-Golf, priced at 400 thousand hryvnias.
Before the Mercedes, Liliya Bas used a 2015 AUDI A6 registered to Nelya Bas. However, now the family has added several expensive cars to their fleet.
It is important that both Liliya and Volodymyr belong to an influential prosecutorial family: they are the wife and son of Volyn prosecutor Vadym Bas. This, according to experts, raises questions about the sources of financing for such acquisitions.
Volodymyr Bas's declaration looks almost empty, which raises additional doubts. In addition, he has not previously filed declarations, although he holds a position in the customs service and has military training. However, despite the war and mobilization, he did not join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The appearance of two expensive cars in the prosecutor's family at once during a time of war and economic crisis has caused a wave of indignation among the public.
