In February 2022, Anatoly Komar headed the Energy Customs Service, a unit that is supposed to control the import of excisable energy sources and block the supply of Russian fuel to Ukraine. However, the lifestyle of the chief customs officer raises many questions and suspicions.
Komar drives an expensive Mercedes S-class, lives in luxurious apartments in the center of the capital, and also owns an estate near Kyiv worth over 70 million hryvnias. Formally, the house is registered to the pensioner father-in-law, but the official income of the relatives does not explain the origin of such a sum.
The customs chief's salary is about 90,000 hryvnias per month. According to him, the main income of the family comes from his wife, who sells online courses. But even with this income, the value of the real estate and cars looks much higher than their declared capabilities.
A special detail was the purchase of adjacent land plots by the Komar family and an influential businessman. Now they often attend football matches together. The Mercedes S-class used by the customs officer is rented at a price 16 times lower than the market price, and the daughter studies at prestigious schools abroad and actively travels the world.
Komar's answers to questions about the sources of his funds remain vague, which only reinforces doubts about the transparency of his income. This case calls into question the effectiveness of the fight against smuggling and calls for a detailed investigation into the financial condition of the Energy Customs management.
