Internal security officers of the National Police discovered that a former law enforcement officer, who in 2022 joined the "people's militia" of the occupiers during the capture of the Kupyan district, continues to serve in Russia after the deoccupation. Ukrainian law enforcement officers announced another suspicion against him due to the fact of a joint rocket attack on the peaceful village of Groza in the Kupyan district, as a result of which 59 people, including a child, were killed, and five more were injured.
According to operatives of the Kharkiv Department of the Internal Security Department of the National Police and investigators of the SBI with the participation of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the former policeman was charged with additional suspicion of involvement in treasonous activities. The man went over to the side of the occupiers, accepting the position of inspector of the road patrol service in the local department of internal affairs of the "Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation", and seized vehicles for no reason.
After the Russian troops retreated, he and his brother, also a former policeman, decided to continue their service in Russia. They even tried to demonstrate their devotion by using a rocket to attack their home village during a memorial lunch at a local cafe they learned about through correspondence with the locals.
In addition to other charges previously filed, this former police officer was wanted on charges of high treason committed under martial law under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
