A pensioner from the Carpathian region smuggled men abroad for $10,000

In the Carpathian region, law enforcement officers have uncovered a scheme for illegal border crossing organized by a pensioner from Ivano-Frankivsk. According to police, the man set up a channel for citizens liable for military service to leave Ukraine, bypassing official checkpoints.

The investigation established that the accused, acting out of selfish motives, sought out those who wanted to avoid mobilization. He agreed on conditions and routes with them, accepted payment of 10 thousand US dollars, and organized their transportation to the border regions of Transcarpathia.

The pensioner personally accompanied the clients to the crossing point, provided instructions, provided transportation, and coordinated all actions during the illegal border crossing.

The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the indictment has been sent to court. The man is charged under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal smuggling of persons across the state border, committed for selfish motives).

Such a crime is punishable by seven to nine years in prison with confiscation of property.
