The famous Ukrainian actor Oleksandr Pecheritsa, who gained popularity thanks to his roles in the TV series "Kryposna" and "Yakov's Century", spoke about his unexpected decision to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Pecheritsa shared that he had no military training before the start of the war, and his decision to go to the front was the result of chance.
"I never planned or dreamed of changing my profession. This is my life's work, my favorite thing to do. In the first days of the invasion, when Kyiv was preparing for defense, I went to the guys who were guarding the overpass on Brovarskiy Prospect. I asked how I could be useful. I say: 'I have a car, two arms, two legs, ready to do whatever they say,'" Pecheritsa recalled.
At the beginning of his service, the actor helped build fortifications, delivered food and solved problems with medicines. Later, he decided to go to the Military Commissariat. "They told me that I need to take up arms, because enemy convoys are coming to Kyiv. I mobilized. It was not easy, because I had to get used to many new circumstances. First, you no longer belong to yourself. Secondly, many things that are used to in ordinary life suddenly disappear. On the front line, even washing with warm water is a luxury," the actor noted.
After a year and a half of service, Oleksandr was discharged, but continues to keep in touch with his unit and is getting an education as a military psychologist. "I want to continue to be useful. I attend specialized courses where we are taught to determine the extent to which a soldier who has been in extreme combat conditions needs psychological rehabilitation, as well as methods of adapting servicemen to ordinary life," Pecheritsa added.
