Psychologist Kateryna Holzberg emphasized the importance of the psychological state of parents in the process of adaptation of migrant children in new communities. She notes that the integration of children is inextricably linked to the integration of their parents, and emphasizes the need to create supportive conditions for all new students.
The process of adaptation of children who were forced to change their place of residence due to the war largely depends on the condition of the closest people who surround them, how quickly they are ready to get used to life in new conditions. This opinion was expressed by the president of the Professional Association of Child Analytical Psychologists, child and family psychologist Kateryna Goltzberg in a comment.
There is a very important aspect that affects the child's condition - these are her parents, her guardians, those people who are next to her. If they are worried, then, of course, the child is worried too. Therefore, we must consider not only the child, separately, but we must integrate the family. And if schools and some centers do this precisely through the family, it will be much easier to integrate the child. If the parents themselves have a lot of anxieties, the child scans them and behaves accordingly
At the same time, the psychologist warns that it is not necessary to single out migrant children among others.
The school staff and teachers should understand that there are such children who may need additional attention, perhaps they should be accompanied by a psychologist. But I do not think that they should be singled out in any way. Because it may happen that there will be such rent-seeking behavior, when the selection of these children may, on the contrary, contribute to their separation, and not to their integration. Adults should know about this. And the child - if he wants to share his background - he can share it personally. Just to create the conditions, as for any child who arrived, came to a new school, so that there would be no bullying and similar things. But this is done with all newcomers - not only with those who came from the occupied territories. Any new child must join the school team through familiarization, through some integration steps, etc.
The Mayor of Brovary Ihor Sapozhko said that the community pays considerable attention to the adaptation of migrant children, namely their attendance at preschools and educational institutions.
We pay extra attention to the fact that immigrant children study offline in schools in our community in order to adapt faster. For us, all children of Ukraine are our relatives
