In Ukraine, a training program on post-war urban reconstruction under the name "Academy Mariupol Reborn" was launched. In the first training course, which will take place in 2024, participants will be engaged in online Lunch Talks according to a special program of Vlad Mykhnenko, a teacher at the University of Oxford. The main goal is to expand knowledge and exchange experience in the areas of urban regeneration.
The training lasts three days, during which the participants study three key blocks of the program: the foundations and drivers of urban development, solutions to the problems of population decline, and urban alternatives for the future. The course provides an analysis of the experience of European cities and consideration of the prospects of the next 25 years.
The initiative belongs to the Mariupol Reborn project, which during the year of its existence has gathered a lot of experience in the formation of reconstruction programs based on the best European and global expertise and practices.
Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boychenko pointed out that the reconstruction of Ukraine is one of the main challenges for communities after the war, and it is important to be ready for this task. Mariupol Reborn is ready to share its experience and expertise through educational platforms, unite communities and learn together.
One of the directions of Mariupol.Academy is the joint education of communities abroad. The pilot launch of this initiative already took place in November-December last year, when representatives of Odesa, Mykolaiv and Mariupol underwent training in Rotterdam, studying the features of the city's communal infrastructure.
The goal of Mariupol Reborn Academy is to create an educational process that will gather the best expertise inside and outside the country. The initiators believe that such a center of expertise will help cities to solve specific recovery issues, such as energy and water supply.
