On Sunday, May 18, another international surgical mission, Reconstruction Mission , coordinated by the Charitable Foundation "Christian Medical Association of Ukraine" (CMAU), began in Lviv. A team of eight leading surgeons from the United States arrived in the city and will provide highly specialized medical care for a week.
The first consultations took place the same day in the emergency department of St. Nicholas Children's Hospital. The reception of patients began at 2:00 p.m. and continued until the last visitor - without prior appointment. The doctors' attention is focused on patients with severe cases, including children with congenital defects and war victims.
Until May 23, American surgeons will perform free surgeries together with Ukrainian doctors in four Lviv medical institutions:
-
KNP ENT "Center for Pediatric Medicine";
-
St. Nicholas the First Hospital of the Lviv Regional Medical University;
-
St. Luke the First Hospital of the TMO of Lviv;
-
Lviv Regional Hospital for War Veterans and Victims of Repression named after Yuriy Lypa.
The main focus of the mission is reconstructive, plastic, ENT and maxillofacial surgery. They work with both war-wounded patients and patients who require complex surgeries that are not available in the usual mode due to a lack of specialized specialists or equipment.
The project is being implemented jointly by several international partners:
-
LEAP Global Missions – forming a team of surgeons;
-
Ed's Friends and RAZOM for Ukraine – funding;
-
CF "KhMA" - logistics, coordination, integration with the Ukrainian medical system.
Since the beginning of the Reconstruction Mission program, more than 800 patients have received medical assistance. These are mainly children and adults with mine and blast injuries, severe burns, and complex facial injuries.
The organizers have already announced the next visits of surgeons to Ukraine as part of the mission - they promise to announce the dates in the near future.
