A specialized unit of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), which hides behind the facade of a pseudo-hacker group, has claimed responsibility for the attack on the mobile operator Kyivstar on December 12. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.
The SBU statement notes that “one of the Russian pseudo-hacker groups claimed responsibility for the attack.” This group is part of the GRU’s hacking unit, which publicly legalizes the results of its criminal activities.
Cyber experts of the Security Service of Ukraine are currently actively cooperating with Kyivstar specialists to restore the network after yesterday's hacker attack.
According to preliminary estimates, the restoration of fixed internet for households, as well as the launch of mobile communications and the internet, is planned for December 13. However, the restoration of all services will take time due to the critical damage to Kyivstar's digital infrastructure caused during the attack.
The SBU continues to document Russia's cyberattack as a war crime, drawing attention to the aggression against Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.
