In the Chernivtsi region, two men attacked a border guard, journalist Vitaliy Glagola reports. The incident occurred at the site of the Selyatyn Air Force Base. Armed with a machete and a gas canister, the attackers attacked a DPSU soldier, knocking him down and hitting him in the leg.
The border guard used Makarov's service pistol in response, as a result of which one of the attackers died and the other was wounded. The information was confirmed by the spokesman of the State Border Service Andriy Demchenko.
"The situation with the attack on the border outfit really took place. It happened on June 29 after 9 p.m. at the site of the Chernivtsi border detachment on the border with Romania," said Demchenko. According to him, the serviceman was forced to use a weapon to protect his life.
Medics were called to the scene. The incident was reported to the State Bureau of Investigation, the police and the prosecutor's office. Investigations are currently ongoing.
Earlier, two men who tried to illegally cross the border with Romania attacked the border guard who discovered them. They took his weapons and fled across the border.
In Transcarpathia, a border guard who allegedly shot a man while trying to cross the Ukrainian-Romanian border was notified of a suspected violation of the rules for handling weapons.
