In the Lviv region, detectives of the Territorial Administration of the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB) exposed a fraudulent scheme that caused the state more than 15 million hryvnias in losses. The criminals, in collusion with the heads of charitable organizations, set up a mechanism to import cars into Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
Since the beginning of 2024, more than 500 cars have arrived in Ukraine, which were declared as part of humanitarian aid. However, as the investigation established, in reality, most of these cars did not end up in the army, but were transported for the personal enrichment of the perpetrators. Some of the cars were sold through online ads, in Telegram channels and social networks Instagram and Facebook. Other cars were dismantled for spare parts and sold, which allowed to avoid customs payments and taxes.
Law enforcement officers conducted more than 50 searches, during which 30 cars, documents, cash and computer equipment were seized. Three control purchases of cars were also made to confirm criminal activity. Investigators continue their work, finding out the full list of people involved in this illegal scheme.
