The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine proposes to mobilize prisoners to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine without their consent, as it considers it the duty of every citizen to defend the country.
The head of the Ministry of Justice, Denys Malyuska, stated on the live broadcast of the news marathon that the draft law on mobilization proposes to attract convicts to military service at their request, but he advocates a "more radical" approach.
According to him, there will be no polling of prisoners whether they want to serve, or how many of them are ready to do it. "No one will ask them. At least, that's our position. It is the duty of every citizen to protect the state," Malyuska said.
The minister emphasized that the decision on whether a person with a criminal record will serve is not made by the person himself, but by the Territorial Military Commission on the basis of mobilization tasks and medical conclusions. At the same time, he expressed surprise as to why all citizens are obliged to protect the state, but convicts are not obliged to do so.
Now, according to Malyusk, the Ministry of Justice is working on prisoners, and the approach to them will be slightly different. The Ministry wants the Territorial Military Commissions to determine which of the prisoners can be useful for military service and who is not.
