In the conditions of the ongoing war, Ukrainians face not only physical, but also psychological challenges. According to the latest polls, more than 80% of Ukrainians completely or rather agree that the mental health of their loved ones and acquaintances has deteriorated significantly since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. Only 10.7% of respondents do not detect signs of such deterioration in their environment.
This is stated in the results of the study "Ukrainians during the war: pride, memory, victory", which was conducted by the Institute of Social and Political Psychology of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences together with the Association of Political Psychologists of Ukraine.
For residents of the southern regions of Ukraine, the situation with the mental health of the environment looks worse (almost 90% see a significant deterioration), in the east it is somewhat better (75.2%) than the average for the sample.
At the same time, a quarter of the respondents (25.1%) believe that during the war one should not take care of mental health, there are more important matters. Almost 64% disagree with this.
Among respondents aged 18-29, the share of those who do not agree with the need to postpone care for mental health for the sake of more important matters in wartime reaches 72%, while among citizens aged 56 and over, slightly more than half think so (57, 4%).
The results of the study also indicate that society expresses concern about the psychological state of military personnel. More than half of the respondents (51.7%) completely agree and almost 35% rather agree that all military personnel who took part in hostilities need specialized psychological help.
