The absolute world champion in overweight Alexander Usyk was again in the spotlight - this time not through fighting, but through words about the main state symbol. In a recent interview for Mail Sport Boxing, which came out on a YouTube channel on July 25, Usik confessed that not all phrases in the Ukrainian anthem he liked.
“ I would change some phrases in the anthem of Ukraine. I tell the truth about this, because I do not like some phrases , ”the boxer said when talking to journalists in Spain.
What lines are doubtful about Usik - he did not specify. But he added that the anthem of Ukraine, nevertheless, evokes strong emotions and serves as a powerful source of motivation.
" This is always a special for me because it is the hymn of my country I represent, where I was born and live, " the athlete explained.
In the same conversation, Usik also told about his first tattoo. According to the boxer, he made him as a kind of protest against his father. The athlete now regrets this act. According to Usik, his dad and mom were amazed and upset by the appearance of a tattoo.
“ I was young and made it called. Now I think it would be better not to do so , ”the champion added.
Thus, a frank conversation with Usik touched not only sports topics, but also deeply personal views. His words about the anthem have already been summoned on social networks, and the memories of a youth protest only emphasized the contradictory image of the champion.
