The "Azov" brigade was again refused to receive aid from the United States of America, reported the commander of the brigade, Denys Prokopenko. The statement about this caused disappointment among the members of the brigade, who had long expected support from the allies.
According to him, the team twice tried to submit a petition on the website of the President of Ukraine, but they refused to publish it there. OP said that this issue does not belong to Zelenskyi's competence.
It is about the fact that the USA itself prohibits giving American weapons to Azov.
"This was a consequence of amendments to US laws that have been in effect since 2017 and block the provision of weapons and training or other assistance to the Azov battalion," explained the brigade commander.
In a petition to Zelenskyi, "Azovians" wanted to call on the leadership of Ukraine "to make every effort so that the amendment prohibiting the provision of American weapons to Azov is removed from the laws of the United States."
It will be recalled that the amendment prohibiting the arming of Azov was introduced back in 2015 by John Conyers, Jr., a Democrat congressman. Referring to publications in the Western press, he stated that "Azov" (then still a battalion) was characterized as "openly neo-Nazi". In 2017, the amendment was approved and is still in effect. "Azov" denies the accusations of neo-Nazism and calls them "Russian propaganda".
