Coffee is a drink without which many do not imagine their morning. But, as British researchers have found out, its excessive use can contribute to gaining weight. The reason is the effect of caffeine on the hormonal background, in particular on the level of cortisol known as the hormone of stress.
Cortisol in small doses performs important functions: supports blood glucose, stimulates the brain, regulates the nervous system. But when the level of this hormone becomes excessive - due to stress or excessive caffeine consumption, failures begin.
What does this lead to?
-
Reduction of testosterone production
-
Weakening of immunity
-
Anxiety and irritability
-
Insomnia
-
The accumulation of fat, especially in the abdomen
Nutritionists confirm that cortisol is directly related to the obesity process. In a stressful state, the body can gain up to 300 grams of adipose tissue a day - twice as much as in calm conditions.
But coffee is not just evil
Nevertheless, coffee contains many antioxidants that can be good for health. Scientists emphasize that everything solves the dosage and quality of the drink.
In addition, in the study of the University of Western Ontario it was previously stated that cheerfulness in the morning can be achieved not only by coffee but also by exercise - the effect will be similar, but the benefits of health are much more.
Therefore, experts advise: not to abuse coffee, especially in stress conditions, and to look for alternative ways of maintaining energy - movement, sleep, proper nutrition.
