Boombox band leader Andriy Khlyvnyuk once again emphasized that he does not plan to give up his Russian-language songs. During a music show on YouTube, he also gave a rating to Max Barsky's " Everything is OK ", noting that Barsky's work is not for him.
" I don't like that kind of music. I just don't like that kind of music. It could have been another artist, it's just not mine. If it's pop music, then it should be a very beautiful instrument and a virtuoso performance or a deep meaning. For example, Stevie Wonder ," said Khlyvnyuk.
At the same time, Barskykh did not leave Khlyvnyuk's comment without a reaction. In the comments to the video, his entry appeared: "Two aesthetes are sitting. 💅😆". This response from the artist added humor to the situation, turning it from criticism into a media dialogue.
This event sparked interest among fans of Ukrainian music: on the one hand, Khlyvnyuk's position as one of the popular rock artists, on the other, Barsky, who represents the commercial pop scene. Both performers have their own fanbase, but their views on music and the audience are noticeably different.
The discussion also highlighted several trends in the music industry:
-
Rock or alternative artists often criticize pop music for its formulaic nature, commercialism, or lack of "deep meaning."
-
Pop artists sometimes respond with humor or irony, which emphasizes the sociocultural distance between genres.
-
The topic of language is also present in the Ukrainian music space: for the most part, artists work in Ukrainian, but Khlyvniuk does not hide the fact that he also uses other languages in his work, although this causes criticism from some fans.
Khlyvniuk previously noted that individuality, artistic depth, and musical improvisation are important to him. Barsky is a master of the pop formula, clearly focused on a mass audience. Therefore, their "fight" became a kind of reflection of different approaches in musical art.
In conclusion, we can say: even criticism did not prevent the implementation of the plan - Max Barsky's track "Everything is OK" continues to gain views, and Khlyvnyuk - to remain in the field of public dialogue. And although each remains on his own stage, both artists win - with music, record numbers, or attention to the topic.
