In October 2024, the price of eggs in Ukrainian stores increased by 60%. This was reported by the representatives of the ATB trade network, noting that producers associate the price increase with an increase in the prices of fodder, energy carriers and other factors.
What influenced the increase in the cost of eggs?
According to the executive director of the Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine, Serhiy Karpenko, prices for basic poultry feed have risen sharply this year:
- Fodder wheat - increased in price by 70%;
- Corn - increased in price by 80%;
- Sunflower meal - increased in price by 60%.
In addition, the cost of electricity for industry almost doubled, which significantly increased the costs of producers. Additional financial burdens were created by other factors - increased salaries, costs for logistics and alternative energy supply.
Seasonal impact on production
Seasonal reduction in production volume also affects the market. In private farms, egg production in autumn is reduced by 30% compared to summer, and in winter it can drop to 50%. However, producers claim that the main reason for the increase in egg prices is the increase in costs.
Egg prices compared to last year
Despite the significant price increase in October, Serhiy Karpenko noted that in September 2024, consumer prices for eggs were 20% lower than in the same period of 2023, and October prices were 15% lower than in October last year. This shows that although the prices of eggs increase seasonally, they remain more stable compared to the previous year.
Forecast for further changes
Experts believe that egg prices may remain high due to the increase in feed and energy costs. However, the exact forecast will depend on market conditions and possible stabilizations in production costs.
