Why is it difficult to find designers, dentists and car electricians in Ukraine?

The long war, mobilization and significant outflow of the population abroad caused a serious crisis in the labor market in Ukraine. One of the manifestations of this crisis is the difficulty in finding qualified specialists in a number of professions.

According to the research of the OLX Robot platform, in October 2024 it was the most difficult to find designers in production. There were only 60 reviews for 39 vacancies. Despite this, employers offer a fairly high median salary - UAH 28,750, which is significantly higher than the national average salary, which, according to the State Statistics Service, amounted to UAH 20,964 in the second quarter.

The second difficult vacancy was the position of a dentist. With a median salary of UAH 30,000, there were only 197 reviews for 110 vacancies on the OLX platform.

Similar difficulties arise with the search for auto electrics, the demand for which remains stably high for the second year. There were only 296 reviews for 149 vacancies in October, although the salary of these specialists increased to UAH 35,000, compared to UAH 27,500 last year.

There is also a shortage of personnel in the field of beauty and health. For example, there were only 290 reviews for 107 vacancies for coaching vacancies (median salary 17,500 UAH).

Another problematic position was the role of the technologist in production. There were only 204 reviews for 67 open vacancies, while the average salary is UAH 22,500.

Why do professionals ignore vacancies?

OLX Robot analysts note that the low interest in these specialties is due to several factors:

  • Specific qualification requirements. Many jobs require not only technical skills, but also practical experience, which limits the number of applicants.
  • Working conditions. For example, in the manufacturing sector, willingness to work in difficult conditions or on an irregular schedule is often required.
  • General situation on the market. War and economic challenges affect the migration of professionals, especially young professionals who choose to work abroad.

Opportunities for seekers

At the same time, the shortage of personnel opens up new opportunities for specialists. Less competition allows candidates to choose better employment conditions, including higher salaries or more comfortable schedules.

Experts advise employers to revise approaches to recruiting: invest in training newcomers, offer flexible working conditions and adapt salaries to a level that corresponds to the realities of the modern market.
