In December, Ukrainians traditionally celebrate many holidays, accompanied by abundant feasts. Some of the unpleasant sensations after them are a natural reaction of the body, but some symptoms may indicate serious intestinal disorders or even oncology. This was told by Kieran Jones, a clinical pharmacist at Oxford Online Pharmacy, in a comment to the Mirror.
The specialist explains: bloating after a festive dinner is a natural phenomenon associated with the expansion of the stomach and the accumulation of gases. But if bloating does not go away within several days, this may already be a sign of pathological processes, including oncological changes in the intestine. Such prolonged symptoms indicate the need for a medical examination.
Another possible “marker” is frequent trips to the toilet. After overeating, the body does react to excess fats and sugar, but if changes in bowel movements occur without an obvious reason, doctors advise to be wary. Constant diarrhea, prolonged constipation or an urgent need to defecate can be a sign of malignant processes.
Jones also points out chronic fatigue after sleep. If the feeling of exhaustion does not go away even after rest, this may indicate anemia. In the case of bowel cancer, it often develops due to hidden blood loss, which reduces the level of red blood cells and leads to severe weakness.
One of the most important symptoms remains the appearance of blood in the stool. Doctors emphasize that even if the diet included bright red foods, any change in the color of the stool should be carefully checked. Fresh or dark blood in the stool is a serious signal that should not be ignored, especially if the bleeding is repeated.
An unusual feeling of fullness after eating a very small amount of food can also be dangerous. According to experts, a constant feeling of fullness sometimes indicates a possible blockage or tumor. Similarly, acute or prolonged stomach pain that does not go away after digestion or disrupts sleep requires specialist consultation.
Doctors emphasize: in most cases, sharp discomfort after a holiday menu is associated with overeating, but atypical symptoms cannot be ignored. The sooner a person seeks medical attention, the higher the chances of detecting serious disorders in time and avoiding complications.
