About seven thousand Colombian citizens are participating in the fighting on the side of Ukraine, according to a BBC .
According to journalists, since the start of the full-scale war, the Colombian military has become one of the largest foreign groups on the front. In the last four months alone, according to Sergeant Luis Ortiz, about 1,200 people have arrived in Ukraine.
Analysts note that the Colombian military has significant combat experience and training, which in many cases meets NATO standards. It is their professionalism and practical experience of service that make them in demand in conditions of intense combat operations.
At the same time, there are wounded and dead among the Colombians. Some of the fallen were immortalized at an improvised memorial in the center of Kyiv , where Colombian tricolors are installed next to Ukrainian flags.
The material emphasizes that the participation of Colombians became a separate phenomenon against the backdrop of significant losses on the Ukrainian side and the growing need for trained military personnel.
Previously, Western media reported about 2,000 Colombian citizens in the ranks of the Ukrainian army, but current estimates are much higher.
