Onion prices in Ukraine fell by 13% over the last week. This happened due to a decrease in demand and an increase in supply in the market. At the same time, small farms that do not have access to specialized warehouses actively sell off their products, which also contributes to a drop in prices. According to the information provided by the EastFruit agricultural platform, onion prices vary from UAH 8 to UAH 14 per kilogram, depending on the quality and place of sale.
This week, Ukrainian farmers are forced to reduce the sale prices for onions. According to market participants, the negative price dynamics is caused by several factors at once. First of all, the demand for onions has decreased significantly.
At the same time, the supply on the market increased significantly, as small farms began to actively sell off products from unequipped warehouses. Farmers are ready to make concessions in order to sell stocks before the onset of frost.
Currently, Ukrainian producers offer onions at prices from 8 to 14 hryvnias/kg, depending on the quality and volume of the batch, which is on average 13% cheaper than at the end of the last working week. Manufacturers note a noticeable decrease in demand, while supply continues to grow. The increase in supply is related to farmers' attempts to quickly get rid of substandard onions, which are not suitable for long-term storage. The main buyers of such products are retail chains and resellers for prompt resale.
It should be emphasized that today the prices of onions in Ukraine are on average 20% lower than in the same period last year. However, it is not easy to buy high-quality onions now: many producers have put them in storage, expecting to sell them only in the second half of the current season.
First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi said that, most likely, sugar prices will decrease by the end of the year. However, in the event of a power outage, the prices of bakery products, vegetables and fruits may increase.
