Gas prices in Ukraine for the first time in two years exceeded European

In the Ukrainian natural gas market, there is a record rise in price: for the first time in the last two years, domestic prices have exceeded European. According to EXPRO profile agency, as of May 27, gas in Ukraine was traded at the level of 22 800–23 200 UAH per thousand cubic meters of VAT, which is equivalent to UAH 19,000-19 333 without VAT or $ 458–466 per thousand cubic meters. In terms of € 38.15-38.83 for MWH.

For comparison, prices on European hubs remain lower. This is the first time since the beginning of 2022, when Ukrainian quotations came above European. According to experts, if such a trend persists, private traders can restore gas imports to Ukraine, which has not actually occurred for the last one and a half years due to the advantage of domestic prices.

The reasons for such a jump are seasonal demand, the expectation of a high gas price for the population in the heating season and reducing the free supply of resource by manufacturers.
