Ukrainian gardeners significantly increased the prices of apples, on average by 23% compared to the end of the previous working week. This is evidenced by the data of EastFruit analysts as of October 4.
Currently, prices for apples in Ukraine vary between UAH 15-22/kg (USD 0.36-0.53/kg), depending on the variety, quality and volume of the batch. Prices are the highest they have been in seven years, forcing consumers to reconsider their purchasing options.
The increase in prices in this segment is explained by the reduction in the supply of fruits of autumn varieties, which are usually not in high demand. However, the situation on the market has changed dramatically: the demand for apples has increased due to the seasonal decrease in the assortment of other fruits and berries from local producers.
Compared to the beginning of October 2023, the price of apples increased by 36%. One of the key factors behind this jump is the cold weather, which forced gardeners to store the bulk of the crop, leaving the market with limited quantities to sell. This also contributed to maintaining high sales prices for the fruit.
The upward trend in prices is expected to continue as demand for quality apples continues to outstrip supply.
