Six trucks with ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, collected at the expense of 70,000 citizens of Slovakia, arrived in Ukraine. The initiator of the collection Fedor Blaschak said that the cargo includes 135 pallets with a total weight of 122 tons of ammunition.
As part of the "Ammunition for Ukraine" campaign, Slovaks collected 4.5 million euros, of which 4 million have already been spent. The remaining 500,000 euros are planned to be used for the purchase of ammunition for grenade launchers, which will be delivered to Ukraine by the end of the year.
"October 7 is a big day that we have been waiting for since the very beginning. It was a clear signal from the Slovak people that 70,000 citizens continue to make regular donations so that Ukraine can defend itself against the aggressor," said Marian Kulych.
The "Ammunition for Ukraine" campaign was launched after the Slovak government decided not to join the Czech Republic's initiative to raise funds for ammunition for the Armed Forces.
It should be noted that, despite humanitarian aid, political relations between Ukraine and Slovakia remain tense. On October 7, Prime Ministers of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Slovakia's Robert Fico held a meeting in Uzhhorod, during which the Slovak Prime Minister expressed his "cold" attitude to the possibility of Ukraine's membership in NATO, although he did not oppose its accession to the European Union.
