If you notice that your face has become unusually pale, and this is not your usual state, experts advise contacting your family doctor. Medical experts warn that facial pallor can indicate health problems, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
AML is a rare type of blood cancer that develops in the bone marrow. The disease causes white blood cells to grow and function incorrectly, disrupting the immune system and blood formation. AML is most common in people over 75 years of age, and symptoms can develop quickly, within a few weeks.
In addition to pallor, signs of the disease may include:
-
constant fatigue and weakness;
-
dyspnea;
-
frequent infections;
-
bruising or bleeding (including bleeding gums);
-
sudden weight loss;
-
night sweats;
-
flat red or purple spots on the skin;
-
pain in bones and joints;
-
feeling of discomfort or heaviness in the abdomen.
Experts emphasize that early detection of the disease significantly increases the chances of successful treatment. Therefore, if these symptoms appear, it is important to consult a doctor as soon as possible.
