As of December 2024, the level of trust in the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, remains consistently high, according to the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS). The study, which lasted from December 2 to 17, 2024, showed that 52% of Ukrainians express confidence in the president, while 39% do not trust his political decisions and actions.
According to sociologists, at the end of 2023, 77% trusted the president, but by February 2024, trust had dropped to 64%, and by May 2024 – to 59% (at the same time, the share of those who do not trust increased during the specified period from 22% to 36%).
"By October 2024, the situation stabilized, but between October and December 2024, the level of trust began to decrease again, although not so much at the expense of those who do not trust, but at the expense of those who have an uncertain attitude towards the president (that is, between October and December, first of all, uncertainty increased, rather than mistrust). As of December 2024, 52% of Ukrainians trusted President Zelensky, 39% did not. The remaining 9% answered that they could not decide on their attitude. Although trust indicators have worsened over the year, the balance of trust-distrust remains positive - +13%, the results of the survey state.
It is also noted that the situation is quite similar in all regions of Ukraine and the balance of trust and distrust is positive. Yes, the attitude towards the president is somewhat better in the West (trust-distrust balance +27%) and in the Center (+13%). In the South and East, trust indicators are also quite high, but slightly lower, and the trust-distrust balance in these regions is close to 0 (that is, approximately the same share of trust and distrust).
How the survey was conducted
A total of 2,000 respondents were interviewed (half of the respondents were asked the question in one wording, half - in another wording). The survey was conducted with adults (aged 18 and older) citizens of Ukraine who, at the time of the survey, lived on the territory of Ukraine controlled by the government of Ukraine. The sample did not include residents of territories that are temporarily not controlled by the authorities of Ukraine (at the same time, part of the respondents are IDPs who moved from the occupied territories), and the survey was not conducted with citizens who went abroad after February 24, 2022.
Survey of Ukrainians
The share of Ukrainians ready to make territorial concessions to the aggressor for the sake of ending the war has grown significantly. So, if during May-October 2024 the share of Ukrainians ready to make concessions remained stable, then from the beginning of October to December, the number of such people increased - from 32% to 38%.
At the same time, the share of those who are categorically against any concessions has decreased. However, despite all the difficult circumstances, as of December, 51% of Ukrainians opposed any territorial concessions (at the beginning of October, it was 58%).
