A dubious trend called “hair training” is gaining popularity on social media. Its adherents deliberately refuse to wash their hair, believing that this will make their hair healthier and stay fresher longer.
The idea spread after a video of a blogger who boasted that she hadn't washed her hair for 33 days. The video has garnered over five million views. The author claimed that if you don't use shampoo, your scalp will "regulate" sebum production on its own.
However, experts in the field of dermatology and cosmetology categorically deny this myth. According to doctors, it is impossible to teach the skin to produce less oil. On the contrary, refusing to wash only harms: the hair becomes dull, an unpleasant odor appears, dandruff and even the risk of developing skin diseases.
To make the care beneficial and safe, experts advise using the “sandwich method”: first apply conditioner, then shampoo, and then conditioner again. This approach helps to avoid overdrying the hair.
The frequency of washing should be selected individually:
-
thin hair - every other day;
-
hard - once every 3–4 days;
-
curly or very curly hair - once every 2 weeks.
Doctors emphasize that healthy hair requires regular cleaning and care, and viral "life hacks" without scientific confirmation can have the opposite effect.
