In an interview with the BBC, DTEK General Director Maksym Timchenko emphasized the efforts of the main market players in close coordination with the Ministry of Energy to prepare Ukraine's energy system for winter in the difficult military situation. He emphasized the important role of Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko, who has headed the department for more than three years, in particular during the period of full-scale war.
"We have a plan and we consistently follow it. The minister demonstrates real leadership and provides support to all market participants: nuclear, thermal and hydro generation, in order to ensure a sufficient number of own capacities," said Timchenko.
He called for a constructive approach and cooperation, stressing that this is critical to overcoming future challenges.
"Now is not the time for criticism. We can all be criticized, but we need leadership. We have already passed two winters, and now we need to focus on long-term solutions," he added.
Timchenko also emphasized the importance of continuing reforms and integration of Ukraine's energy system into the European one.
It is worth noting that since the beginning of the full-scale war, DTEK thermal power plants have been subjected to almost 190 shellings. In nine months of 2024, the company invested more than UAH 2.3 billion of its own funds in repairs and restoration of its stations.
