The State Bureau of Investigation has completed a pre -trial investigation into the former commander of one of the territorial defense brigades and three of his subordinates, who organized the criminal scheme of illegal receipt of combat payments.
In 2023, the commander issued his wife as a shooter in the military unit subordinate to him. In order to avoid formal suspicion of conflict of interest, the couple officially divorced, although it still lived together.
After registration, the woman has never been sent to the war zone. Instead, she was near her husband and engaged in horse farm. Moreover, during her "service" the serviceman managed to go to Poland, where she spent two weeks.
To legalize the payments, the Comborea attracted three subordinates, including two units. They systematically made counterfeit documents stating that the woman participated in the fighting on the front line. Thus, in 2023–2024, it received almost UAH 1.2 million of additional cash remuneration.
All participants of the scheme will be judged by several articles of the Criminal Code, in particular for fraud, official forgery and distortion of budgetary funds through abuse of office.
