Sheremeta's external economy voluntarily went to serve in the National Guard

Former Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Pavel Sheremet reported his mobilization to the Defense Forces of Ukraine. He wrote about it on his Facebook page.

“I made this decision consciously. I will not yet open the details, but yes, I am mobilized and served as part of the National Guard, ”Sheremet said.

Well -known economist, reformer and public intellectual joined the defense of the state in a full -scale war. In his post, he did not specify in which unit he would serve.

What is known about Paul Sheremet

Pavel Sheremeta headed the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine in February 2014 - after the Revolution of Dignity, in the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk. Prior to that, he was a well-known specialist in the field of business education and reforms: he founded the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School, was a dean of the Lviv Business School, and worked in international projects.

However, in September 2014, Sheremet resigned because of his disagreement with the principles of government policy. In particular, he opposed Valery Pyatnitsky's appointment to the post of Deputy Minister without consent. He publicly explained his position with the unwillingness to return to "old approaches" and the lack of systematic support for reforms.

After the release of Sheremet, he returned to teaching, consulting and promoting the ideas of economic modernization. His public speeches were often concerned with the strategic development of Ukraine, institutional capacity and innovation.

Currently, in 2025, he joined the defenders of Ukraine not as an expert, but as a serviceman. His decision to serve in the National Guard has become unexpected, but a symbolic gesture from a person who has repeatedly called for responsibility, transparency and actions.
