Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has announced that she has undergone surgery on her right leg, due to which her 2024 season ended prematurely. The athlete told about this on her Instagram, noting that the injury hindered her for most of the last two years.
"Unfortunately, my 2024 season is already in the history books as I had surgery on my foot today to fix a long standing problem that I have been trying to fix this year," Svitolina wrote.
It's the same injury that kept her out of the 2023 season and made it difficult for her to compete in 2024. According to Elina, the pain became so strong that it affected not only tennis training, but also everyday life.
The tennis player expressed her determination to fully focus on her recovery and return to the court in 2025. "I am determined to do everything possible to return to the court and compete at the highest level," Svitolina emphasized.
Elina also thanked her supporters for their support during this difficult period. "Your love and positivity mean everything to me, and I look forward to seeing you on the courts in 2025," the athlete wrote.
We will remind that the last Grand Slam tournament of this year - the US Open - began on August 26. Although six Ukrainian tennis players took to the courts on the first day of the competition, Svitolina could not overcome the barrier of the 1/8 finals due to the deterioration of her health.
