Ukrainian national team defender Vitaliy Mykolenko commented on the team's victory over Iceland, noting that the players are happy with the result, but disappointed with the three goals conceded. According to him, there were no special celebrations in the locker room - they only congratulated the debutant.
"I wouldn't say that there was anything special in the locker room. Everyone is happy. Only Veletny made his debut. We congratulated him. There were mixed feelings, because we conceded three goals and that's very bad," said Mykolenko.
He also noted the impact of the substitutions on the match and the positive role of the rotation of the squad: "We started very well, but then, when we were winning 3:1, we conceded two goals and it was very difficult to score again. But the substitutions came in and they helped us a lot, in my opinion, I would say so. And I'm very happy that we won this match."
Mykolenko explained why the team lost the advantage: in his opinion, when the team is leading by two goals, the players sometimes subconsciously relax, and the opponent gets a chance to reduce the difference. "When you always win by two goals, it's even harder. Because you subconsciously think that you've already won this match, but only you miss one more goal, that's already one difference, and they are on the move, the opponents," the defender said.
During the match, Mykolenko scored an assist for Ruslan Malinovsky.
