Law enforcement officers in the Transcarpathian region have charged a former specialist of the State Geocadastre department in the Khust district with removing almost a hectare of private land from the register. The man faces up to three years in prison.
According to the regional prosecutor's office, a resident of Khust tried to register an inherited land plot of almost 1 hectare on the outskirts of the city after her father's death. The land is located in an attractive investment location that is being actively developed.
Despite providing all the necessary documents, the woman discovered that the plot had actually disappeared from the State Land Cadastre, and two others were already registered in its place.
Law enforcement officers found out that the suspect created a fake document – allegedly a “technical error” – and removed the valid cadastral number of the plot, which created an artificial basis for the appropriation of land by third parties.
The disputed plots have been seized. The suspect, who currently holds the position of head of one of the departments of the Syurt village council, is charged with drawing up and issuing a forged official document and unauthorized change of information in an automated system (Part 2 of Article 358, Part 1 of Article 362 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction provides for up to three years of restriction of liberty.
