The parliamentary publication "Voice of Ukraine" will cease to exist as an independent media as of April 1, said the acting director of the publication Serhii Demskyi in an interview for Detektor media. According to the new law "On media", the newspaper will cease to function as a printed publication and will acquire the status of only an official source for parliamentary documents, such as adopted laws and resolutions.
Until March 31, 2024, "Voice of Ukraine" had the status of print media on the basis of a state registration certificate and was published as an official print publication. However, after the deadline, the editorial office will not have the right to issue a printed edition without state registration. Since under the new legislation "Voice of Ukraine" should become only an official printed publication, it will be repurposed exclusively for the publication of official information on the website.
Currently, the newspaper's editorial office employs about 80 people, of whom 58 are journalists. After the closure of the publication, most employees will remain out of work, and some journalists will have to change their positions.
"Voice of Ukraine" was published from January 1, 1991, five times a week, from Tuesday to Saturday. During this period, the largest circulation was 800,000 copies, but today this figure has decreased to 3,600.
