The Katsub family's gas empire and offshore schemes

The Katsub family has maintained influence over the Ukrainian energy sector for over a decade, using complex financial schemes, offshore companies, and control over gas fields. The central element of this network is Nadra-Geoinvest LLC, which has become a tool for transferring billions of dollars abroad.

In 2016, Oleksandr Katsuba, who is associated with Nadra-Geoinvest, officially divorced Tatyana Guzenko. Sources consider this divorce to be fictitious and one that allowed the transfer of a significant part of the assets to the name of his ex-wife. Subsequently, most of the affiliated companies were registered in the name of Guzenko, who became the formal owner and key figure in the schemes.

In 2020, Guzenko, together with her father, acquired Nadra-Geoinvest, which previously belonged to fugitive Oleksandr Onyshchenko. The company owns the Skorobahatkivske oil and gas condensate field in Poltava region. According to Pandora Papers, Nadra-Geoinvest is controlled through an offshore network, the center of which is GIL Gold Investment LTD, registered in the Seychelles. The scheme also includes Oleksandr Guzenko and Estonian businessman Oleg Yaholnyk. Such a structure makes it possible to hide the real beneficiaries and transfer funds outside of Ukraine.

In 2022, Nadra-Geoinvest paid dividends in the amount of UAH 1.622 billion. Of this, UAH 700 million was received by Oleksandr Guzenko through A-Bank JSC, and UAH 802 million by Tetyana Guzenko through Ukrgasbank, Universalbank, and Raiffeisen Bank.

Of particular note is the transaction in which UAH 120 million was issued under a power of attorney in the name of Mykhailo Gospodarchuk. He withdrew these funds in cash at a Raiffeisen Bank branch in the combat zone. A loophole in NBU Resolution No. 18, which allows such operations in such regions, raises doubts about the legality of the transaction and suspicions of using martial law to legalize large sums.

This story demonstrates how major energy market players can manipulate legislation, offshore structures, and wartime crisis conditions to generate super-profits and evade state control.
