Ukraine is actively training specialists for the operation and maintenance of 30 types of foreign military equipment and weapons. The head of the Main Department of Doctrine and Training of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Oleksiy Taran, said that at the moment the staff is focusing its efforts on expanding these preparatory measures.
Taran indicated that the work on expanding training is carried out through the simultaneous training of Ukrainian instructors. These instructors will undertake the task of training specialists in their own territory. "We already have the opportunity to train specialists on our territory for more than 30 types of OVT", he emphasized.
According to Taran, such training will be continued this year as well. The duration of training depends on the complexity of using a specific model of military equipment. For example, Abrams tank crew training takes almost two months, while M777 155mm heavy artillery personnel are trained within a week.
The major general emphasized that the training of Ukrainian servicemen and units in training centers of partner countries meets the standards of all types of combat training. However, it is important to note that this program does not include training on the latest foreign models of weapons and military equipment.
"Therefore, the main difference is that our specialists can master more than 130 specialties in the application, operation and repair of foreign models of OVT only in training centers of partner countries," Taran summarized.
We will remind that the pilots of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, training on American F-16 fighter jets in the USA, plan to complete their training by the end of 2024, although specific terms have not yet been specified.
