The National Security and Defense Council plans to consider the issue related to threats to the security of Ukraine and society, which arise as a result of the spread of online casinos and insufficient control over this industry. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi in his evening address on April 16.
Zelensky held a preparatory meeting with the participation of the Secretary of the National Security Council, representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Information and the Office of the President regarding the problems of the gambling business. Now a relevant issue has been prepared for consideration at the Council meeting. The President emphasized that measures will be taken to block all opportunities to manipulate people and harm public interests in this area.
Zelenskyi also expressed his condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the activist and soldier of the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade, Pavlo Petrichenko, who died in the battle for Ukraine and became the author of the petition to restrict online casinos.
Noting the importance and contribution of such people to the development and protection of Ukraine, Zelenskyy urged to remember that the real strength of the country lies in its citizens, who stand guard over its future.
Previously, a petition was posted on the website of the President's Office regarding the restriction of the gambling business, which received the required number of votes. In response, the president instructed the relevant authorities to collect analytical data and develop solutions regarding the regulation of online casinos.
The initiative to transfer the functions of the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL) to the Ministry of Digital Transformation was also announced. Despite this, the Verkhovna Rada decided not to subordinate KRAIL to the Ministry of Digital, but to create a new body for these purposes.
