During a visit to Kyiv by the Minister for Defence Preparedness and Industry, Luke Pollard, the UK government announced on the gov.uk website that missiles manufactured under the British support program had been delivered to Ukraine five months ahead of schedule.
These weapons, lightweight multi-purpose missiles (LMMs), have been used to defend Ukraine’s airspace since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. The latest stage of the £1.6 billion deal is set to see the missiles further integrated into the country’s air defence system.
Minister Pollard said that this year the UK will spend about £4.5 billion on military support for Ukraine, and stressed the importance of cooperation: the British side plans to learn from Ukrainian partners and together develop the industrial base necessary to counter threats.
The report also states that early delivery strengthens Ukrainian defense capabilities now, and further integration of LMM missiles should increase compatibility with existing air defense systems and accelerate their effective use.
