In Bryukhovychy near Lviv, a cottage town was built on a 5-hectare area and surrounded by a high fence. Formally, the city hall allowed the construction of a recreation and health complex on this land.
Previously, the plot belonged to the brother of former MP Taras Kozak. In 2014, the land was divided into six parts and transferred under the control of a group of people, among whom were individuals associated with Viktor Karachun, one of the owners of the largest Ukrainian supermarket chain ATB.
Construction began even before the Lviv City Council issued urban planning conditions for the development of 1.3 hectares. The permit concerned a health complex with the possibility of temporary residence on the plots of Valentyna Svitaylo, Natalia Byba, Denis Synenko and Igor Karachun. Despite this, the already erected houses are still listed as “recreation and health complexes” in the real estate register.
As of September 2025, four of these plots were officially transferred to the category of residential development. Another one is without data in the cadastre. The largest territory, over 3.5 hectares, retained the status of “for health purposes” and now belongs to the company “Lviv Resort”, whose owner is Igor Ponomarenko. Last year, this company also received urban planning conditions for the construction of a health center.
Lviv Deputy Mayor Lyubomyr Zubach, in a comment to journalists, stated that “there is no reason to believe that anything other than a health complex is being built there.” At the same time, the actual construction on the site of the dispensary indicates the transformation of the territory into an elite cottage town.
