In Kyiv, law enforcement officers have uncovered a large-scale financial pyramid scheme through which citizens were defrauded of over 20 million hryvnias. The organizer of the criminal scheme has been notified of suspicion in absentia.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the fraudulent activity has been ongoing since October 2022. The criminals offered citizens to invest funds in an alleged "international investment platform", promising quick and high profits.
The minimum contribution to participate was 50 USDT, a cryptocurrency actively used in the scheme. Potential investors were attracted through social media, including through advertising on Instagram.
To create the illusion of profitability, the organizers developed special websites with “personal accounts” that displayed fictitious income. In reality, no investments were made — all funds were appropriated by the scheme participants.
A 32-year-old Ukrainian citizen has been charged with fraud. He is currently abroad, in one of the European Union countries. His actions have been classified as fraud on a particularly large scale, committed by a group of individuals.
Law enforcement officers continue to identify others involved in organizing the financial pyramid and do not rule out expanding the circle of suspects.
The case is being investigated under the procedural guidance of the Dnipro District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv.
