Ukraine is recording an increase in the number of cases of respiratory virus infection. In the Mykolaiv region alone, virology laboratory specialists have examined over 500 people, about 20% of whom had their diagnosis confirmed by laboratory tests.
This was reported by the regional center for disease control and prevention.
The greatest concern among doctors is the dominance of influenza type A, which accounts for almost half of all positive results. In addition, laboratories are recording the spread of adenoviruses, rhinoviruses, as well as cases of COVID-19.
According to doctors, it is influenza A viruses that pose an increased risk due to their ability to constantly mutate. This allows them to bypass immune defenses and spread rapidly among the population. Of particular concern are the H1N1 and H3N2 subtypes, which can cause severe complications, including pneumonia and respiratory failure.
Experts emphasize that influenza A can infect not only humans but also animals, which increases the risk of the emergence of new highly pathogenic strains.
In city hospitals, dozens of new cases are detected daily using rapid tests. At the same time, influenza type B, parainfluenza, and metapneumovirus infections are being registered individually. This creates an additional burden on the region's medical system.
Doctors urge citizens not to ignore the first symptoms — fever, cough, sore throat, weakness — and not to self-medicate. Timely diagnosis and proper therapy remain key factors in preventing serious complications.
