Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May in Ukraine and many countries around the world. This warm, touching holiday is dedicated to the women who gave birth, raised, supported, and never betrayed their children.
Mother's Day has a long history. It was founded by American Anna Jervis in 1908. She lost her mother and decided to do everything possible to make honoring mothers an official holiday. Her idea was supported in the state of Georgia, and later throughout America. In Ukraine, Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1928 in Galicia, but it was restored at the state level only in 1999.
Unlike the Soviet March 8, Mother's Day has a clear meaning - it is not just a "women's holiday", but a day to thank mothers. In recent years, the holiday has become increasingly popular. According to sociological surveys, most Ukrainians congratulate their mothers on this day: some call, some send a postcard, and some give flowers or gifts. But the most important thing is the attention and warmth that mothers deserve every day, not just once a year.
Mom is not just a word. It is support in the most difficult times, it is unconditional love, it is warmth that you remember for a lifetime. Mother's Day is a great occasion to say "thank you" once again for everything. And if your mom is nearby, hug her. If not, call her or just remember her with a kind word.
