A curious, but at the same time criminal, incident occurred in the village of Voloshky in the Rivne region: a 38-year-old local resident stole a wallet with a large sum of money from an acquaintance, and then lost the stolen item.
According to police, a 56-year-old resident of Rivne contacted law enforcement on July 19. He reported that a wallet containing 1,500 euros and 1,000 hryvnias — a total of over 70,000 hryvnias — was stolen from his unlocked car near a local store in the village of Voloshky.
As investigators determined, the theft was committed by an acquaintance of the victim, with whom they had been drinking alcohol the day before. The man took advantage of the moment when no one was paying attention to him and pulled the wallet out of the car. After that, the attacker took money from it and left the empty wallet next to the car. He was later found by the police.
However, as it turned out, the loot did not stay in the thief's hands for long. He lost the money that very day. Whether it was due to alcohol or carelessness, the amount disappeared without a trace. Law enforcement officers were unable to find the stolen funds, and the suspect himself does not remember their location.
The investigation qualifies the incident as theft committed under martial law (Part 4, Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The man faces 5 to 8 years in prison. The issue of declaring suspicion and choosing a preventive measure is currently being decided.
