Infectious disease specialist Moroz: COVID-19 is turning into a seasonal infection

Coronavirus is gradually becoming a seasonal disease in Ukraine, but local outbreaks are still possible in the fall of 2025 and winter of 2026. This was stated by infectious disease doctor Larysa Moroz in a comment to the Kyiv24 TV channel.

According to the doctor, statistics indicate a decrease in the incidence rate. If in August 2024, almost 47 thousand cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Ukraine, then this year - about 22.5 thousand.

"Coronavirus infection is already becoming a seasonal disease. If we look at last year, October and early November were the peak of the increase in morbidity, after which the numbers decreased. This year we expect similar dynamics, but at the same time we predict a wave of flu," Moroz explained.

Who should get vaccinated?

The issue of vaccination, according to the infectious disease specialist, remains relevant for risk groups:

  • elderly people,

  • patients with cardiovascular diseases,

  • cancer patients,

  • people with neurological problems or immune deficiencies.

"I would recommend vaccination for these categories. For the rest of the population, it is voluntary," Moroz added.

Thus, doctors expect that COVID-19 will eventually become part of seasonal viral diseases along with influenza and SARS.
