The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a decision that gives civilians the right to use firearms to participate in deterring armed aggression during martial law. According to the new changes, weapons must be officially declared, and only under this condition can citizens use them to protect the country from external threats.
The representative of the government in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, explained that the relevant changes concern the Procedure for the use of firearms by civilians in the case of participation in the fight against aggression by the Russian Federation or other states. These changes mean that civilians can use weapons if they have been found and declared in accordance with the law.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Leonid Tymchenko also announced that by the end of January 2024, the permit for weapons will be displayed in the Ukrainian application "Diya", which will simplify the process of legalization and registration of weapons.
In total, during the operation of the Unified Register of Weapons, the police received more than 483,000 applications for obtaining permits, of which more than 469,000 were already satisfied.
