The former head of the Economic Protection Department of the National Police of Ukraine, Ihor Kupranets, created a real cluster of companies of former law enforcement officers, energy magnates, and even the ex-president of Ukraine in his metropolitan office, BC Iceberg. Interestingly, the building itself was built illegally, but the Kyiv City Council approved the sale of the land under it, legalizing the structure.
After his release from the police in 2019, Kupranets actively expanded the family's business empire, which includes hotels in Bukovel, Pylypets, and Truskavets. In 2021, the family's companies moved to the Iceberg Business Center, where various companies settled: AMC Aisens Asset Management LLC, Ukrnat 2020 LLC, Solar Blest LLC, Sunbeams Energy LLC, Mountain Dream LLC, and others.
In addition to the family business, the office has been home to firms of former high-ranking officials and politicians. Among them are the Leo Invest Group fund founded by Viktor Yushchenko, companies associated with Leonid Kryuchkov and former SAP employee Volodymyr Kryvenko, as well as Ruslan Marchuk's Banquet LLC. Many of these companies are engaged in mining, energy and logistics activities, and some are in the restaurant business.
Journalists note that the Iceberg Business Center has become a symbol of the close intertwining of business and the law enforcement system. Despite criminal proceedings regarding illegal construction and the involvement of former police officers in the business, the courts and local authorities actually facilitated the legalization of the office center.
Igor Kupranets, his family, and former law enforcement officers who settled in the Iceberg Business Center continue to do business in various areas, demonstrating that after serving in the law enforcement agencies in Ukraine, one can quickly integrate into private profitable projects by attracting influential partners.
