The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing and Communal Services supported the decision to purchase equipment for the completion of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant. This decision was made at a meeting of the committee on Thursday.
In particular, it was recommended that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopt in the second reading and as a whole the draft law “On permission to purchase equipment necessary for the construction of power units of the Khmelnytskyi NPP”, with all the necessary technical and legal amendments and a new title. 16 people's deputies voted in support of this decision.
Speaking at the meeting, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko emphasized that the development of nuclear energy in the world is gaining momentum, and therefore it is important for Ukraine to ensure the supply of buildings for the completion of the Khmelnytskyi NPP as soon as possible.
Earlier, MP Viktor Bondar stated that the completion of two power units of the Khmelnytskyi NPP will help create thousands of highly qualified jobs. This will also be a powerful stimulus for the economic and social development of the region.
The decision to complete the Khmelnytskyi NPP is an important step towards strengthening Ukraine's energy security and gives hope for increasing nuclear energy production in the country amid a constantly growing demand for energy resources.
